Biography: Clarisa Melendez
Clarisa
Melendez is an undergraduate student seeking a Bachelor of Science in
Telecommunication degree at the University of Florida. She works as a local news
reporter for the PBS affiliated WUFT News in Gainesville. Through her experience she executes strong
professional communication skills, a creative mindset and strategy planning
skills. Clarisa has anchored the News in 90 TV segment broadcasting to 3
million people in 50 cities and towns in Northern Florida. For this segment she’s
written, filmed and edited stories on programs like Adobe Premiere Pro, AP ENPS
news production system and NBC News Source.
Apart
from television reporting, her work also includes radio covering stories for NPR
affiliated 89.1 WUFT-FM on local news. As a proud Peruvian American she has
served her Hispanic community by writing for the radio Spanish program called
Noticias on local, national and international news. Her past work includes an hour-long radio reading
service where she produced and co-hosted News

Clarisa
has interned for Telemundon51/NBC6 during summer 2017 where she worked alongside
an outstanding team of journalists in T51. There she pitched news tips and
contacted sources. When Trump arrived in Miami to speak on U.S. and Cuba
relations, she served as part of the White House Press Pool. When guests
arrived for the show Accesso Total, Clarisa greeted them and helped run
teleprompter for the live show. She also wrote stories published for web for the
NBC6 digital team.

With
her ability to quickly organize and gather factual information, she is able to
effectively produce stories on deadline to keep an audience informed and
engaged. She has efficiently collaborated with her colleagues of reporters and
writers to ensure on-time delivery. With excellent multimedia storytelling skills
for editing, writing and reporting, Clarisa now serves as WUFT’s News anchor on
Mondays.

I had no idea that News in 90 reached 3 million people in 50 cities. That is a lot more than I initially thought. Thank you for informing me. I think it is really cool that you can report in both English and Spanish. It's not easy for me to report in just English.
