Plaza of the Americas



University of Florida students sit at the Plaza of the Americas lawn Monday morning. The lawn was designed by landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted in 1925. Just last year, the lawn was renovated with new tables and seats as seen in the picture above. Students often gather at this location to enjoy from Krishna lunch. The lunch is provided to the student body by ISKCON devotees and volunteers. With just a five dollar donation, a warm vegetarian meal is served!

Biography: Clarisa Melendez Clarisa Melendez is an undergraduate student seeking a Bachelor of Science in Telecommunication degree at the University of Florida. GNV Students Increase Test Scores Thanks to Tennis Mentor Program

Gators in Motion                   As the saying goes, work hard play hard, and these kids are doing just that. Middle and high school students struggling with their grades are getting help thanks to a mentoring program called "Gators in Motion." Through tennis the kids create bonds with volunteers who become a support system for them. "I was struggling in biology and one of the volunteers helped me." said Camryn Ford Eastside Student.      The program pairs kids from low-income neighborhoods with the University of Florida students.  Tutors work one-on-one with them and the students couldn't be happier. Every week the students meet with the volunteers at the Florida Gymnasium where tables are set up for study sessions.  The Director for the program, Nasseeka Denis, said they are very involved with their members. Kate Venezio Kate Venezio is a sports reporter and anchor for WUFT News at the University of Florida. As a multimedia journalist she is able to cover stories in an array of platforms. Kate has covered various sports such as volleyball, football, and softball to name a few. She has worked as the TV Beat Report for the Gator Volleyball team as well as the radio and web reporter for the softball team. She has covered events and written web articles for WRUF.com. Kate has also worked as the UAA photographer and she says she plans to continue to cover all things sports! Her enthusiasm on and off the courts is what makes her a true leader! Justin Ahlum  Justin Ahlum is a fourth-year student at the University of Florida majoring in telecommunications on the news track. His interests revolve around sports and has truly dedicated his time to get as much experience as he can. As a multimedia journalist he has worked for radio, and television.
